Custom Window Replacement in Richmond, BC
Looking to improve your home’s energy efficiency and comfort? Replacing old or foggy windows with high-performance sealed units is one of the most effective upgrades you can make. At Island Glass & Mirror, we specialize in custom window glass replacement in Richmond and across the Lower Mainland.
Why Replace Your Sealed Window Units?
Over time, window seals can break down, causing condensation, foggy glass, and reduced insulation. If you notice moisture between the panes or drafts near your windows, it’s time to consider replacing the sealed units. New insulated glass units (IGUs) not only restore clarity but can also significantly reduce energy bills and improve indoor comfort year-round.
How to Choose the Right Window Glass
Modern glazing technology offers a wide range of options tailored to different climates and energy needs. Here’s what to consider when selecting new window glass:
- Low-E Coatings: Reflect heat while allowing natural light in, improving comfort and lowering energy use.
- U-Value: Measures insulation performance—lower values mean better energy efficiency.
- Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC): Indicates how much solar heat passes through—ideal values depend on your climate goals.
- Double or Triple Glazing: Extra panes can improve thermal and acoustic insulation.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How long does it take to get a replacement window?
There are several factors that can affect lead times for sealed units. Current production levels with our suppliers, specialty glazing in the window, and our own production levels will all impact the lead time to receive the new windows. We won’t know for sure until your order is confirmed and we have received an order confirmation. However 2-3 weeks is generally a good ballpark estimate for sealed unit lead times.
How do you handle installations to wooden window frames?
There are always challenges when working with older window systems. Although we try to preserve the stops on older windows this is no always possible and it may be necessary to source replacement stops.
What kind of Energy saving windows do you carry?
Our primary glazing vendor carries Solarban 60, Solarban 70 and Energy Advantage as Low E coating options. Low E coatings essentially work to maintain the whatever the temperature in the home is, much like a thermos. There are also reflective glazing options and laminate products which all have different thermal properties to suit your project.
